Video game consoles have covered a long way since their modest beginnings in the early 20th century.
Here is a detailed timeline of the video game console, from the very first console to the present day:
1972 – – Magnavox Odyssey
The Magnavox Odyssey is the first video game console.

2000 – – Playstation 2.
Sony publishes the PlayStation 2.
It was a stronger console than the Playstation and came with a series of popular games, including Final Fantasy X and Grand Theft Auto III.

2001 – – Xbox
Microsoft publishes the Xbox.
It was a stronger console than the PlayStation 2 and came with a series of popular games, including Halo: Combat Evolved and Dead or Alive 3.
The Xbox sold over 24 million units and put in production for over 7 years.
2005 – Xbox 360
Microsoft publishes the Xbox 360.
It was the first console to use a hard drive for the game memory and also had an optional wireless controller.
The Xbox 360 was very successful and sold over 84 million units worldwide.
2005 – – Nintendo DS
Nintendo publishes the Nintendo DS, its first handheld console with two screens.
The DS was a great success and sold over 150 million units worldwide.
Nintendo 3DS was successful in 2011.
2006 – Wii
Nintendo publishes the Wii, a console with motion recommendations that enables players to control games with physical gestures.
The Wii quickly becomes a massive success and sells over 100 million units worldwide.

Microsoft publishes Xbox One X.
The most powerful console ever published, which also had an optional 4K blu-ray player, is the Xbox One X.

2019 – Playstation 5
